Good news: You totally can!

1. START THE CONVO

According to Helen, it’s important you’re always interacting with your potential followers in order to draw people to your page.

“My biggest advice to grow your followers is to engage with other people – in a world where there are well over 300 million Instagram accounts, how else are you going to draw people to yours? I still dedicate an hour each day to engaging with other people and responding to comments,” she says.

She also recommends being authentic.

“Be true to your style and aesthetic and don’t post anything that you don’t feel proud of. I think the quality of your work will evolve as you grow and gain more experience.”

2. REACH OUT

While some social media in uencers get countless offers from different brands and products, when starting out you’ll have to put in work and take the initiative yourself.

“I think it’s a healthy mix of both [offers and approaching brands] for me because I’m quite a proactive person,” Helen says.

“You could be sitting around waiting for months, even years, for the brands you want to work with to approach you. So why not save them the time and introduce yourself?”

3. PROMOTE BRANDS THAT SUIT YOUR VIBE

We’ve all seen celebs promote products you know they’re only posting because they’re being paid (*cough* Scott Disick). “Brand values are definitely important to me”, Helen says.

“If it’s not something I would normally use or wear then I’ll turn it down because if you don’t love the product or brand you’re creating content for then it’ll show!”

4. IDENTIFY WHAT YOUR FOLLOWERS LIKE

So, what does Helen find gets her the most attention on her Insta?

“That’s easy – anything travel related that has an adventure element will generally stand out more on my feed,” she reveals.

“Strangely enough I’ve also found that blue is definitely my colour and when my feed has an abundance of blue, it tends to get more engagement. So take a closer look at what your followers seem to really rate and you might spot certain patterns/themes.”

5. HAVE SOLID ~GOALS~

Helen suggests working out a plan of what you hope to achieve. “Doing it for the wrong reasons and not having a clear target of where you want to be by a certain point in time are mistakes people often make,” she says. “Also, forgetting to stay humble and self-checking your ego is another common mistake.” #Preach
