If you grew up in the 90s then you might remember a fabulous little show called Round The Twist. If so, you probably would have DREAMED of vay-caying it up in a lighthouse. As it turns out, you actually can.
In honour of International Lighthouse Weekend – yeah, it’s a thing – we have compiled five of the most beautiful lighthouses, which you can actually stay in. Say what?
Lighthouse Grebeni, Croatia
This lighthouse comes with its own island. Yup, that’s right, the 1872-built (2014-renovated), four-bedroom lighthouse sits on its own secluded island, only 300 metres (a 3-minute boat ride) away from holiday hotspot Dubrovnik.
Pt Arena Lighthouse Head Keeper’s, USA
The US has great lighthouses too; this one in California is totally up our alley. The former home to the Assistant Lightkeeper fits six people and a stay here includes unlimited tours of the Lighthouse Museum and Tower, complimentary bottle of Husch wine and chocolates.
Beachfront Lighthouse Marlera, Croatia

If it’s a romantic escape you’re after, this one’s for you. This luxurious lighthouse is totally secluded, surrounded by beautiful nature and only 25metres from the beach.
Lighthouse in Hvar, Croatia

Built in 1889, this lighthouse fits you and seven of your best buddies. It’s situated just metres from the sea and grants stunning views of the coast and surrounding mountains. The best bit? You can hire a professional chef to do the cooking for you. Sold.
The Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse, Australia
A bit closer to home, at Seal Rocks you’ll find three heritage listed lighthouse keeper’s cottages at The Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse. All three cottages were recently renovated and feature everything you need. But we haven’t told you the best part yet, the cottages are in a National Park, which means you can expect total peace and quiet. Finally!
