A judge has praised the brave actions of Home and Away star Orpheus Pledger after he came to the rescue of a Sydney woman who was attacked on the street in April.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Judge Ian McClintock sentenced the perpetrator, Justin Bird, to four-and-a-half years in prison for aggravated assault with intent to rob against the victim.
‘The victim was a vulnerable young woman who was obviously entitled to be able to walk the streets without fear,’ said the judge. ‘She was indeed fortunate to have Mr Pledger intervene.
He added: ‘He is to be commended for … preventing any further injuries.’
The TV star was walking home from the gym in Sydney’s Surry Hills when he noticed a suspicious-looking man stalking a young woman.
The young actor said he felt so uneasy about the man he felt compelled to follow him for a couple of blocks.
‘He just made a run for her. He ran 10 or 15 metres and grabbed her full around the body and threw her to the ground,’ Pledger told The Daily Telegraph.
‘My gut told me something was up. I was pretty frightened but the adrenaline kicked in. My initial reaction was for me to step in and to help,’ he said.
