“It happens to me still, and I’m 31. It’s awful, and the way you feel is real. The way you feel is completely valid.

You need to get your bad self off the phone. Instagram has this great function where you can turn off the comments.

“Don’t read the comments. Also, my biggest tip…and I’ve been through a lot of online trolling… but a problem shared is a problem halved. So talk to someone about it. It doesn’t have to be your parents or a teacher, just tell a friend. Once it’s off your chest you’ll feel less anxious.

“Talking about it is so important. It could escalate into something huge and you just don’t want it to get to that point. Nip it in the bud.”

How to be confident

“I love this idea of fake it ‘til you make it. And I just say go for it! Be fearless. It’s scary, being out there making stuff and being perceptually ‘confident’, but it’s all smoke in mirrors.

“I live in fear all the time, like ‘I’m not good enough,’ but hearing that voice in your head and going ‘I don’t need you. I’m going to be great, and I am enough. I can do this.’ It’s really hard to squash that voice that tells you you’re crap, but my desire to be successful and to create great stuff is louder. Being fearless is so hard, but it’s so rewarding.”

How to monitor social media

“You’re the sheriff of your own social media. You can pick and choose. You don’t want to keep them around as a follower. Bye Felicia!

“I ban people all the time from my Facebook page. I don’t want them being negative in my space.”

What she would tell her 15-year-old self

“It gets better. It’s hard because you are super different to everybody else and that’s good. Your differences will make you, you. Your differences will make you successful. Your personality is worthwhile.

“Be patient, because it take a while. I thought I would start at the top. Be open, and you are… *I’m gonna cry*… but you have a really beautiful body.

“I think when I was a teenager I used to hate going to school because I hated my uniform, I hated my boobs and I hated my body. I was embarrassed.

I would say to my 15-year-old self, ‘you are so beautiful and your body is great. Stop beating yourself up about the way you look because there are more important things in life. Your brain is great; respect your brain because that’s where your ideas and your creativity come from. And everything you were bullied for as a child you will be rewarded for as an adult so hang in there because it’s so worth it.”
