April has been a good month for companies to totally destroy their reputation, so it seems.
First there was Pepsi’s horrific blunder with Kendall Jenner, then Nivea came out with a racist ad campaign… now, Adidas have sent out awfully offensive emails to people and the backlash is #real.
This week saw the Boston Marathon, which holds a huge significance to people since 2013’s marathon resulted in 3 people being killed and 260 wounded after two bomb attacks exploded near the finish line.
This year, Adidas sent out an email to runners commemorating the event, stating, “Congrats, you survived the Boston Marathon!”
Wow.
Adidas have obviously apologised after the backlash, sating they were “incredibly sorry” for the “insensitive” subject line.
“We are incredibly sorry. Clearly, there was no thought given to the insensitive email subject line we sent Tuesday. We deeply apologise for our mistake,” they wrote in a statement.
“The Boston Marathon is one of the most inspirational sporting events in the world. Every year we’re reminded of the hope and resiliency of the running community at this event.”
Yikes. Looks like a lot of companies are needing to re-asses their PR teams.
