Ok, here's where things take a turn for the strange.
After Tweeting the Washington Post article, people began to tweet back at the star asking her to turn away from prison reform work in order to save Britney Spears from her 11-year-long conservatorship.
Peep the slightly weird - but commendably passionate - tweets below.
So what is all this about?
Basically, there is a subset of Britney Spears fans who are advocating for the end of Britney's 11-year long conservatorship, saying that as a result, Britney has lost many of her civil rights including where she decides to live, what medical treatment she can accept and the loss of her own assets.
The #FreeBritney campaign also claims that the conservatorship is corrupted as there is evidence of money laundering, as well as the fact the conservatorship does not allow Britney to hire her own legal counsel.
Basically, every cent Britney has earned since 2008 has been controlled by her father Jamie under this conservatorship, that was until March 19 when it fell under a lawyer named Andrew Wallet.
Fans have since speculated that Britney petitioned for the end of her conservatorship this year, with a source seemingly confirming that theory to CNN, saying: "Of course she wants it [the conservatorship] to end, because she's not of the right mental state to understand her issues. She has a mental illness and that doesn't mean she needs to be locked up. It puts her somewhere in the middle. She's working on it. It's a struggle on a daily basis."
As far as we can tell, the issue is highly complex and deeply personal, with the Spears family not making any recent public comments on it.
But if Britney really does need freeing, we can think of no better person than Kim Kardashian.
