Over the weekend, Kim turned 40 and, to celebrate, “surprised” all of her friends and family with a trip to an exotic private island. In a series of tweets, she explained that she was “feeling so humbled and blessed,” after taking two weeks of “multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine” to “pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.” But, here’s the thing, normal people can’t do that. We can’t pretend everything is fine and feel ever so humbled to flee our problems, we’re faced with the reality that the world is in a global pandemic that is killing thousands.
Later, Kim adds that this kind of trip is “so far out of reach right now,” for “most people,” implying that people can’t fly to their own exotic private island only because of the COVID-19, ofc. It’s yet another moment of her and the Kardashian family’s privilege.
In photos shared in the tweets below, you can see that neither Kim or her party were spotted wearing face masks or social distancing. By comparison, all staff symbolically seen in the background of these “moments that reminded [her] how privileged [her] life is,” were. As The Cut noted, “there is no word as to what safety precautions were taken to protect the staff on the island,” including the “two weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine.”
