"Me when the government comes knocking on my door for the draft," he wrote alongside a series of photos of himself dressed as a woman.
As can only be expected, fans were unimpressed with how insensitive the tweet was.
"trans women get killed for purely existing and ur out here being all I am going to dress as a woman to avoid being drafted even though I am a cis white gay  cut the shit james" one fan wrote.
"yes, transphobia... very funny, james."
"posing as a minority that gets killed daily for a meme. wow."
"Iâm gonna say you didnât realise the transphobia in this. But a cis make saying heâd pose as a woman to avoid something, even as a joke, creates a narrative that trans people might only be trans to gain some sort of benefit. Like how the GOP says men will claim trans identity to," wrote another.
"This is transphobia at its finest! You can take off the wig and the clothes at the end of the day and still be fine where as trans women are getting MURDERED for doing the same. Being a woman shouldnât be a costume especially when youâre just trying to get your way."
It didn't take long for James to respond to the heavy backlash.
"just to clarify, this tweet has nothing to do with the trans military ban, which I obviously do not support. itâs a lighthearted joke regarding the fact that I had to register for the draft when I turned 18, just like every other boy, & i donât wanna fight in a war. thatâs all."
It's not the first time James has come under fire for using his sexuality in a way that doesn't quite sit well with fans. Just recently, his Tinder profile was set under 'female', with fans accusing him of trying to prey on straight men.
However, despite the serious backlash James isn't letting his 2020 be anything less than perfect.Â
"Iâm the happiest Iâve been in so long F*CK YEAAHHHH 2020 is off to a good start," he tweeted shortly after his blow-ups.
