Newly engaged Katy Perry appeared on Monday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and revealed how Orlando Bloom proposed. The 34-year-old singer and the 42-year-old actor got engaged on Valentine's Day.
Perry said the two went to dinner and had plans to go see some art, but when Bloom surprised her with a helicopter the evening took a different turn which Kimmel jokes was "very Bachelor". During the helicopter ride, Bloom gave Perry a sweet note for her to read while he pulled out the ring and popped some champagne.
But unfortunately, nerves got the better of Bloom and he fumbled with the ring box and champagne. "The champagne is, like, broken. The bottle is everywhere, and I'm still looking at the note," Perry recalled. "He's pulling out this box that's too big for his coat pocket. It rips his coat pocket, and his elbow goes into the champagne."
Bloom went one step further and when the helicopter landed, Perry was greeted by all her friends and family. "He did so well," she said.
The couple has been dating on-and-off since early 2016 when photos of them flirting at a Golden Globes after-party nearly broke the Internet.
Perry also spoke about that meeting on Jimmy Kimmel. "I was sitting with Denzel Washington, and he took it and I was like, 'Wait, who? Oh, you're so hot. Fine, take it,'" she recalled. "Then I saw him at a party and I was like 'How are those onions resting on your molars?' He's like, 'I like you.'"
This will be the second marriage for each of them - Bloom split from model Miranda Kerr (with whom he shares an 8-year-old son Flynn) in 2013, and Perry finalised her divorce from comedian Russell Brand in 2012.
