So how does an indie Aussie brand get in contact with Disney? Well, it turns out it’s true when they say you never know until you try, because Marcus took it upon himself to reach out to the company’s General Manager, and the rest is history.
“It’s since resulted in an authentic, long-term partnership in which the Disney team have been able to contribute to our impact programs through workshops with our young people and more,” he reveals.
Their steadfast approach to their mission, teams, program and Australian youth is built on positivity, which they infuse inside the fabric of their pieces in a literal and figurative sense.
As a result, the happiness elicited from this project isn’t an accident.
“It felt like a natural fit given Disney brings a sense of positivity to every household and is known for creating such nice memories through film, characters etc,” explains Marcus. “The vintage graphics and iconic characters also meant we were able to be a bit more playful with our designs, highlighting friendship and nostalgia with a hint of the 90s.”
In a world where 'sustainability' and 'ethical' have become buzzwords, it's hard to know when a company alters the truth for financial gains. But HoMie prides itself on transparency and is very open about how they ensure 100 per cent of profits go to young people affected by homelessness.
To achieve their goals, they have set up two programs called HoMie Pathway Alliance and VIP Days to help young people impacted by hardship learn skills, gain confidence and experience to enter the workforce.
"Profits and funding go towards developing and growing our program each year, and of course, supporting more young people!
"This involves paid work experience, retail education and training, professional development and more," he tells Girlfriend.
In the spirit of HoMie, consider shopping Australian to support our independent brands that have a direct impact on our lives and peers, especially in the wake of a tough two years.
“Supporting local brands and creatives means bolstering the industry, creating employment opportunities, and helps provide more opportunities for young people across all aspects of the fashion industry,” encourages Marcus.
