But how does anyone get past that smirk?!?!
Anyway...
The music video may just seem like a hot mess of cupcakes, puppies and children, but there's actually a lot to unpack here.
THE IMPORTANCE OF 3
All good things come in three's apparently. Whenever Harry is about to announce something huge, he posts three blank images on his social media. (He did this for before he released his Another Man covers and his solo music artwork).
In the video, only three children were dressed like him.
It must be a sign of the times???? Sorry.
"I WORK IN A BAKERY"
The infamous line from Harry's audition on X Factor. It has since become a pretty iconic thing for Harry, and the fandom, who often refer to Harry as a baker.
(Although, we're choosing to ignore the fact that he recently admitted he was only the cashier - the betrayal.)
The video is full of baked goods, from cupcakes to decadent looking flans. It definitely looks like one tasty food fight, and we're guessing it's a way of Harry remembering his roots with this epic new solo career.
BEAU GADSDON AS A MINI HARRY
Harry cast child actress Beau Gadsdon to play a younger version of himself in the music video, and it was a pretty bold and iconic move for her to be a girl.
But, knowing Harry, it's not that surprising at all. Harry is a huge feminist, who has on countless occasions said that he believes women are the future.
When talking to Rolling Stone he said, "Young girls like the Beatles. You gonna tell me they're not serious? How can you say young girls don't get it? They're our future. Our future doctors, lawyers, mothers, presidents, they kind of keep the world going. Teenage-girl fans – they don't lie. If they like you, they're there. They don't act 'too cool.' They like you, and they tell you. Which is sick."
BLESS.
Young Harry (Beau) is strong, feisty, and BOLD in her Gucci suit. She captures who Harry really is on the inside, perfectly.
PUPPIES!!!!!!
Because we weren't freaking out enough with the kids and the cupcakes, Harry then decided to melt everyone's hearts even more by unleashing the puppies.
But they weren't there to just look cute. If you cast your memories back to one of One Direction's first ever covers for Wonderland magazine, you'll remember they all posed with puppies.
It became pretty iconic, and we're just guessing that the puppies in his music video could be a nice ode to that time in his life when One Direction was at its peak. Since Harry has never had a bad word to say about his 1D past, we can see how this would be a nice reference.
The particular dog that Harry is holding is very similar to the dog he posed with on the magazine cover:
THE BATTLEFIELD
The whole premise of the music video was WAR. Well, it was a food fight, but it was set up very dramatically. So dramatically, that it could easily be compared to Harry's first movie, Dunkirk, which was directed by Christopher Nolan.
The kid in the video has red velvet cake spilling from him, to replicate blood and guts. The other kid holding him is screaming for help. It's very intense, and some fan even mashed the video with some Dunkirk footage to prove this point further.
CHILDREN IN GUCCI
It's not news that Harry loves to dress eccentrically. That's something that we've all come to love about Harry. We know why he dressed Beau in the same outfit as him, but why some of the other children?
Well, remember when 1D bandmate Liam Payne joked that he wouldn't let Harry babysit Bear, because he was afraid of what he would dress him in?
"I couldn't rely on Harry 'cos I feel like my child would come out dressed in something that I just wouldn't understand," were his exact words.
We're guessing this is a direct hit back at those comments, and we're OBSESSED.
Harry has spoken out about gender and his sexuality before, admitting that he won't define his sexuality, and we can see him replicating those thoughts in this music video as he dressed the kids in gender neutral clothes.
All we have to say is, this is a damn masterpiece and Harry never, EVER fails to amaze us.
Watch it again in allllll its glory:
