There are only 500 of these first edition copies lurking around so it’s pretty rare to find one, but fingers crossed.
The lucky owner of the book was JK Rowling’s first literary agent Christopher Little. He sold the rights to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to Bloomsbury in 1996.
There are a few checks you need to go through to make sure you’ve definitely got a 1997 first edition copy.
- You need a publisher’s imprint page with the number sequence from 10 to 1.
- Rowling’s name printed as 'Joanne Rowling'.
- Page 53 with the duplication of “1 wand” on the list on magical school equipment.
- You need the misspelling 'Philospher’s' instead of 'Philosopher's' on the interior cover.
- Lastly, it also has a random drawing of a wizard on the back cover, who isn’t featured in the Wizarding World.
