The Flare Is Back With A Vengeance So Here's Where To Shop 'Em

Flared up. - by Faye Couros
  • 01 Jun 2021

The divine retro is an evergreen trend, and it is so delectable when it circles through the fashion ecosystem to land itself back into the present day.

WATCH: Bella Hadid shows off her dance moves in new TikTok video.

Even though sometimes we have to wait for a trend to start budding to find garments that fit the brief, for those master op-shoppers, there is no corner unexplored in the search to find items like vests, vintage sweaters and pinafores.

Luckily, flare pants are the retro trend that doesn't appear to be dying out now that skinny jeans are well and truly done (RIP).

The flare jean is the OG source of 70s fashion lust, but flare pants are equally intriguing and can be more playful, with a host of colours to choose from.

You can opt for sleek black, glossy emerald or, if you're feeling brave, a boisterous pattern to amp up your campy aesthetic.

For some contextual inspo, we look to our favourite musicians, models and celebrities to find our own dupes.

To be that feather boa.

Harry Styles

Oh, Harry, you are quite obviously our Mick Jagger and how lucky are we to bask in your 70s king aesthetic.

Of course, Harry stans will know that he has been wearing flares in all types of colours and patterns since One Direction went on their "hiatus."

In this to die for picture with Lizzo, Harry has opted for a neutral coloured flare.

Neutrals are a great contribution to an all-round, stylish wardrobe because they can match anything, but they aren't restricted by the modest nature of plain black pants.

Black is always a good idea when in doubt.

Bella Hadid

Now, not to be hypocritical, but there is an essential reason to incorporate black flares into your clothing collection.

Black is appropriate for most occasions, which means on days when you cannot for the life of you put an outfit together, it's the easy alternative that will look fashionable even though it required minimal effort.

Bella's all-black ensemble almost makes us forget that flares are such a 70s-inspired trend because her look is smack bang where it belongs in the 21st century.

She even looks slightly futuristic, proving one can completely de-retro a look to maintain a modern edge.

The glitz... THE GLAMOUR.

Adut Akech

Our Australian supermodel looks insane in this textured, glittery and fabulous flare.

It is a more flamboyant and formal take on the trend, one for when you're feeling a little extra.

Although Adut's flares probably cost a pretty penny, here are some glitzy dupes to wear to your next event.

Instagram

Tim Nelson

Australian indie band Cub Sport's effervescent lead singer Tim Nelson has an eclectic style which is the perfect physical manifestation of the band's psychedelic sound.

When Tim isn't decked out in divine stage outfits, the singer has been seen rocking colourful flares.

Colour can feel like a risk, but it's also one of the easiest ways to be creative with fashion - let's be real: colour rules are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.
