Makeup artist and beauty vlogger Sepi Balini recently shared a video of her getting the procedure done and apart from it looking absolutely terrifying, it's caused all sorts of drama because of how risky it is.
Sepi captioned the clip—which has been viewed over seven MILLION times—"I only wax the front, not all the way. I know nose hair is necessary." But that hasn't stopped concerned fans calling her out for removing the hairs, which many think is unsafe!
The post is ~filled~ with comments like:
"It's not worth it. That hair is to protect us."
"Omg people don't do this to your health."
"This is not good for you at all."
And worried commenters aren't wrong. Dr Ted Lain, a dermatologist based in Austin, Texas, told Seventeen those hairs actually keep foreign particles (like dust and allergens) out of your nose and waxing can increase your risk of infection.
But it gets worse. Since there's no protective layer of dead skin cells in you mucosa (the sensitive tissue inside your nose), it can't really handle waxing like the skin on your face and body.
"You can get burned, which is extremely painful, can take a long time to heal, and can lead to scarring," Dr. Lain says.
Dr. Heidi Waldorf from New York City adds: "Waxing intra-nasal hairs may cause a painful pimple from inflammation."
To sum up, this is one waxing procedure you should probably give a miss. But if you really wanna say bye Felicia to your nose hairs, trimming is your best option. Laser is also recommended since it can target the hair without damaging the tissue inside the nose.
OR just learnt to live it—we've all got nose ahir and it's there for a reason, after all.
