This is why Aladdin isn’t shirtless in the live-action remake like the original animated film

Makes sense...

The live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin is officially out in cinemas today, but we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek earlier this week…

The movie lived up to the hype, following the original animated film nearly to a T. However, one thing that was noticeably different was Aladdin’s attire.

In the animated version, Aladdin is shirtless for nearly half of the movie.

Mena Massoud’s version wasn’t shirtless.

In a recent interview with EW, costume designer Michael Wilkinson explained why.

“For the same reason why we thought it wasn’t appropriate for Princess Jasmine to be flashing her belly button for half of the film, we also felt that once you make that leap from cartoon into live-action, you really have to make some adjustments.”

Fair!

He added, “We thought having so much skin showing on Aladdin for the whole film would be quite distracting on a human actor as opposed to a cartoon character.”
