Just this week, Ariana Grande dropped the single “The Light Is Coming” off her new upcoming album Sweetener.
Unsurprisingly, it was a collab with her partner in crime – Nicki Minaj – and it is AMAZING!
But since its release, fans have desperately been trying to figure out who the hell the man screaming throughout the track is.
Throughout the song, a man can be heard yelling, “You wouldn’t let anybody speak!”
So who the HECK is it?
Well, news editor, Madeline Roth from MTV has done the hard work and figured it out for us.
The clip is actually from 2009 Pennsylvania Town Hall, and the man is yelling at Senator Arlen Specter in protest.
Nobody is really sure why Nicki and Ari (plus producer Pharrell Williams) used that sample, however, Pharrell used another one of the Town Hall samples in his N.E.R.D. song “Lemon”.
At the time of the protest, people had an issue with changes to the healthcare system. You can see the original clip here:
