In Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, our hearts break for both Harry and Sirius after the thought of being able to live together as family is torn away from them.
Now, many many years later, the internet has decided to finally say what we’ve all been thinking: Sirius could have changed this!!!
InquisitorCOC shared a screenshot from the Tumblr blogginghaley which shows an alternate ending for Harry and Sirius.
In the scene, Hagrid returns to Dumbledore without Harry as a baby, instead with this explanation:
“Right so, I don’t have the baby. But he’s safe. Sirius Black was at the house, he explained the whole thing to me. It was all Pettigrew, the Aurors are already tracking him down. And, er, Sirius told me to give you this.”
He then gives Dumbledore a letter, reading, “Dear Dumbledore, Remus and I understand that you think Harry should be raised by muggles, but that is f- stupid so we’re keeping him. Xxx Sirius HIS GODFATHER AND RIGHTFUL GUARDIAN.”
Lol.
Harry growing up with Sirius would have changed his ENTIRE life. He would have had an actual childhood that didn’t involve living under stairs and being abused by his cousin… but Reddit users also feel like the way the story panned out was the right way.
“He [Sirius] sincerely was not in the best position to be taking Harry in at 22 years old,” wrote ohgeorge. “Especially because he likely would’ve murdered Peter anyway if Peter hadn’t faked the explosion.”
“The bloody stupid thing wasn’t leaving him with the Dursleys, it was not bloody well checking up on him,” wrote KrasiniArithmetic “If they had not assumed that Vernon and Petunia were fundamentally decent people, then they might have done something about it.”
