Drake – the universally loved rapper in touch with his feelings – was actually booed off the stage during Tyler the Creator’s annual Camp Flog Gnaw festival on Sunday, and the footage is honestly just sad.
WATCH: Drake embarrassed after getting booed off stage
After coming on stage as a surprise musical guest on Sunday, Drake (understandably) decided to finish his set early when the crowd began booing him.
Drake even addressed the crowd when the heckling got too intense, saying: “You know, Imma tell you, like I said, I’m here for you tonight. If you want me to keep going, I will keep going,” which was met with a lot of boos and members from the crowd telling him to go home.
“It’s been love. I love ya. I go by the name of Drake, thank you for having me,” Drake replied before ending his set 20 minutes early, according to Billboard.
We’re just going to say it, whether your a fan or not this behaviour from the crowd is not ok.
If you’re wondering why literally anyone would boo Grammy winner Drake, it’s because people thought Frank Ocean would be performing instead.
According to PEOPLE, the crowd was heard chanting “We want Frank,” during Drake’s set, with one YouTuber sharing a pretty savage video as it all went down, writing: “Fans at camp flog gnaw were expecting that Frank ocean was gonna be the surprise guest headliner… they got drake instead.. safe to say… they rather Frank ocean,”
TBH, Drake instead of Frank isn’t a bad trade.
On Monday, Tyler the Creator addressed the situation, saying that he was “embarrassed by fans”.
“I thought bringing one of the biggest artists on the f—ing planet to a music festival was fire! But flipside, a lil tone deaf knowing the specific crowd it drew. Some created a narrative in their head and acted out like assholes when it didn’t come true and I don’t f— with that. This n— did feel no ways!
“Song is beautiful. Also, mostly everyone was having a great time, those s—s in the front area were the ones being mad rude, which, I can see why, but, nah, f— that, y’all represented me and Flog to my guest and made us look sooo entitled and trash. That s— was like mob mentality and cancel culture in real life and I think that s— is f—ing trash.”
He continued: “Thank you Aubrey … He really did that for me and I appreciate it because he did not have to come at all. See our worlds come together was so great in theory. Again, thank you Drake. I’m f—ing pissed ‘Hotline Bling’ was next — that’s my f—ing s—.”
