We didn’t think we’d ever be saying this, but 2020 has surprised us all. Stephenie Meyer, the author of the juggernaut Twilight series has just announced that she’s got two more books in the series planned. ICYMI, there’s been a huge Twilight ‘renaissance’ over the past couple years, culminating with the long-awaited official publication of Midnight Sun. The new book is a retelling of the first novel in the series from the vampire Edward’s perspective, following his and human Bella Swan’s unlikely love story.
“There are two more books I think in the world [of Twilight] that I want to write,” the 47-year-old author revealed during a recent livestream. “I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it’s there.”
But she did add that, “I am not ready to do that right now. I want to do something brand new.”
Innnteresting! We’ve got questions and a lot to consider. Where would the books go plotwise? Will we see Edward and Bella’s everyday family life? Are they just more retellings of the books from Edward’s perspective? And perhaps most importantly, would there be more Twilight films?
Well, when she was asked about the possibility the films’ director, Catherine Hardwicke, told Entertainment Tonight, “[It] would be fun. It would be fascinating.” Okay, that’s not a ‘no’!
As for whether the film’s breakout stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart would reprise their roles, Hardwicke explained she didn’t know if it’d be possible.
“Rob is Batman now… And Kristen is in a million beautiful projects,” she continued. “Who knows what would happen.”
