There have been rumours for MONTHS now that the Harry Potter franchise will see another movie outside of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series.
WATCH: Tom Felton posts throwback video with Emma Watson
We would be fairly shocked Warner Bros. chose the re-do the original Harry Potter movies, as they are still fresh in everyone’s minds and are already cinematic masterpieces (don’t @ us).
But the word on the street is that after Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald kinda flopped, the production house will be turning to the third story in the Harry Potter canon to bring to the big screen: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Considering Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been a phenomenal success, a screen adaption of the play isn’t too far out fo the realm of possibility.
And if that wasn’t already great news, the actors who played the OG Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy, are all adults and are of an age where they could realistically reprise their roles.
And Tom Felton (AKA our number one Slytherin boy) is down.
In a recent interview, Tom said he would ‘jump at the chance’ to play Draco again and someone hold us.
“Yeah, I’m endlessly proud and affectionate of young Draco, so any chance to reprise that role would be great.
“I think we should come back and do the opposite, Rupert [Grint] should play Draco, I’ll play Hermione, Dan can play Dobby, and Emma can be Hagrid, it’s the perfect re-casting! It’ll be an interesting spin [on it].”
Tom then continued: “But, seriously, if there was another chance to be in another movie then I’m sure all of us would jump at the chance to be part of it.”
Ok, can we all just take a moment to appreciate how close the Harry Potter cast obviously still are?
Back in September, Daniel Radcliffe said he was also interested in reprising his role as ‘the boy who lived’ if the opportunity ever arose.
“I’m never going to say no to something that would make this the thing that in 10 to 20 years times someone’s like, ‘BUT YOU SAID NO THAT ONE TIME’ or ‘YOU SAID YES THAT ONE TIME’… I literally don’t know.”
However, the interviewer asked Daniel if he’s interested and YES MA’AM, HE IS!
“I guess yeah! I’m interested in finding out.”
So how did these ‘new movie’ rumours come about anyway?
On September 6th, the woman behind the epic series herself J.K Rowling tweeted a picture of the Cursed Child logo. Fans immediately went nuts as it is the first photo Rowling has posted in legit months – and the play has been on London’s West End since July 2016.
Later, people burst that exciting bubble when they put the tweet down to a simple promotional pic for a Cursed Child-related event in New York.
BUT THEN.
Later on that September day, Pottermore posted the most intriguing announcement: “‘Sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places’ is the prophetic new tagline for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which has just revealed a sensational new look across its marketing artwork and venues around the world.”
Even though there is not a lot to go off, We Got This Covered – a highly respected American outlet that covers film and television news – released a report that Warner Bros. was working on a Cursed Child film, and it wants to cast the OG’s as Harry, Hermonie and Ron.
Just a quick FYI, We Got This Covered first broke the news that Disney’s Aladdin was getting a live-action remake, as well as confirming Marvel’s plans for a She-Hulk TV show.
So, they know their stuff.
At this point, we can’t see why Warner Bros. wouldn’t ride the gravy train that is the Harry Potter series, so a Cursed Child movie seems to be a definite in our opinion.
As for whether Tom, Daniel, Emma and Rupert will return, we can only hope and pray the rumours are true.
