The characters of 13 Reasons Why are one of the reasons why it became such a successful show. They were cast perfectly.
Could there be a different Clay? NO. Hannah? Definitely not… What about Montgomery.
So he wasn’t the biggest character on the show, but he did play a pretty pivotal role in the storyline regarding Alex Standall and Tyler Down both spiralling into horrible places.
But he nearly didn’t get the role at all.
30-year-old (yep!) Timothy Granaderos recently spoke to Teen.com, and revealed that, “I think I read for Justin Foley, Tony and Jeff Atkins, and I had gotten kind of far along in those audition processes, but at the end of the day I didn’t get any of those roles.”
So how did he end up as the bully?
“My agent sent me Montgomery and she was like, ‘Just self-tape this!’ And I literally thought to myself, ‘I’m not going to get on this show; I don’t know what the point it.'”
“That’s why it’s just one of those situations where you can never know unless you try.”
If that ain’t a testament to never give up then we don’t know what is!
As for season 2, we’ll definitely be seeing more of him. “It’s just exciting to go back and hopefully hang out with all of those people again,” he said.
Bring it on.
