Since the first episode of Riverdale, the town has been shook at the murder of Jason Blossom.
Jason has been depicted of being dearly beloved by everyone in town (especially Cheryl lolz twincest), so why would anyone murder him?
WELL, this new fan theory on Reddit, reported by Refinery29 suggests that it wasn’t Jason who was meant to be killed at all… it was Archie.
*SHOCKED FACE*
The thread initially highlights the similarities between Jason and Archie – they both have red hair, they are both football players etc.
It then goes on to describe how suspicious it is that Archie’s plot line is so removed from his friends. Betty and Jughead are trying to solve the murder, Veronica is dealing with her father’s issues, even the parents of the show have more interesting plot lines than Archie’s neeeeed of strumming his guitar.
“The show seems to be deliberately keeping Archie (the main character) at an arm’s distance from the central mystery, which I think is intentional beyond as a means for allowing Bughead to get their sleuth on,” original poster Beau Hawkins wrote.
“I’m not sure why anyone would want to kill Archie, but I think we will come to learn that either his father’s business, his absentee mother, his affair with Ms. Grundy or some yet-to-be-revealed detail put Archie in a position to know something or have access to information without realising its importance.”
Hm…. we do wonder why Archie who is meant to be so central has been so removed from the mystery.
The theory continues…
“Why would Jason be tortured only to be killed and dumped in the river? I guess someone might have been trying to make him suffer, but then why decide to shoot him in the head? It seems more likely that they were trying to get information out of him. Maybe the reason they couldn’t was because they got the wrong kid. When they finally realised it, they decided they had to kill Jason to keep him quiet.”
Another use on the thread named Jordvnm added, “If [Grundy’s] ex husband is as crazy as Grundy described him he’d kill him. The Blossom twins, Grundy, and Archie were all at the River at the same time, Grundy’s ex husband follows Grundy and Archie there, but while trying to stay hidden, finds Jason (who yes, is a spitting image of Archie physically and characteristically) on the other side of the river, and kills him under the impression that it’s Archie.“
Although, that same user notes that the timeline doesn’t add up with the way Jason was tortured.
“To torture someone you would have to be furious and personally offended, i.e. Grundy’s ex-hubby. I don’t know, the only think this show is hanging off of at this point is who the killer is. We will see!”
