*Warning: spoilers for Riverdale season 4 ahead!*
Season four has officially kicked off for Riverdale, and it’s come with a popular fan theory… everything is going on inside Judhead’s head…
Reddit explained the theory in more detail.
“I’ve heard the theory about ‘Riverdale’ being written by Jughead circulating around for a while now, and I have some potential evidence for this theory being true. It’s a small detail, but it makes sense. The episodes are part of chapters. For example: ‘Chapter Thirty-Three: Shadow of a Doubt.’ It’s a reach, but if the story of Riverdale is being written by Jughead, it would make sense that all the episodes are considered chapters.”
The comments on the theory were pretty varied.
“That isn’t a theory, that’s canon,” Reddit user @Castagnette commented. “That’s why the episodes are ‘chapters’ and why Jughead is narrating the opening and ending of each episode. This is all part of his novel(s).”
However, many people suggest that the book Jughead’s writing is fiction that he has totally made up.
Meaning, no Archie, no Black Hood, and no Gargoyle King.
We really don’t think the writers would take this journey, as it’s a little “it was all a dream”… but who knows with this show anymore! It would be pretty cool if Jughead has written all of these adventures as fan fiction!
And there’s proof too.
Many of the episodes have been based on popular movies or theatre shows in the past, but lending themselves to fit their own adventures… much like fan fiction does.
The most recent episode could have been straight from the theatre show Chicago.
However, one fan who doesn’t believe this theory thinks that Jughead wouldn’t write so much erotic fiction…
“That means that Jughead wrote erotic fanfics about him and Betty. Comics Jughead doesn’t seem like that kind of guy,” they wrote. Another commented, “A bit weird of him to focus so much on the sex his best friend is having.”
If Jughead isn’t actually dating Betty, we can guarantee that he’d be writing some smut about his crush. Especially if she’s still super in love with the boy-next-door Archie.
We guess we’ll just have to wait and see how Riverdale eventually ends…
