To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before finished with a happy ending for everyone’s favourite new couple Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinksy, but a sequel could mean trouble for their relationship.
The Netflix rom com based on a book by author Jenny Han has been a hit since premiering on the streaming giant this month, but if the sequel flick follows the sequel book, it could be bad news for Lara Jean and Peter.
The second book in the series, titled P.S I Still Love You, deals with the struggles the couple go through after deciding to be in a relationship.
“The struggle of what that means and not having a contract and trust — all those issues that they talk about on the field at the very last scene,” director Susan Johnson told Entertainment Tonight. “Relationships are hard to navigate and they’ll find themselves in one. And they’ll discover what the next person might bring in John Ambrose McClaren.”
Remember the boy who turns up at Lara Jean’s front door at the end of the film? Well, he is John Ambrose McLaren and he’s one of the boys she wrote a love letter to and turns out to be competition for Peter.
“We’re so invested in Peter and Lara Jean, that seeing them go through struggles is going to be hard but also something everybody can relate to,” Johnson said. “The next shiny face comes in and you’re like, ‘Oh shoot, this guy’s really nice too. What do I do?’”
