Well, it only took weeks of social media-fuelled speculation to get ’em to announce it, but The Bachelorette’s Angie Kent and Carlin Sterritt just confirmed they’ve officially split up. To jog your memory, the reality TV couple met on the 2019 season of The Bachelorette, where Angie eventually fell for Carlin and chose him as her number one. The thing is, people have had the sneaking suspicious they’ve been over for a while after they unfollowed each other on Instagram. Plus, neither of them had made an appearance on the other’s account since May. Practically years in the world of reality TV.
Finally, Angie confirmed the news. In an Instagram story she shared today, the former Bachie star explained the silence, “We have not wanted to confirm up until this point because there have been much bigger issues going on in the world and we’ve both been taking space to think about what we really want.”
She continued, “Matters of the heart are extremely difficult and I’m sad to say that Carlin and I have broken up. I wish him nothing up the best in the future.” She went on to say that she just wanted to put the rumours to bed and urged her followers to be kind if they decided to message because “words can be very hurtful-and compound already very difficult times.”
Carlin also took to the good ol’ IG story to confirm the news to his followers.
“It is true that Angie and I have gone our separate ways, but it’s for the best individually. Simply just wanting the best for her and wanting the best for me and being the best version of yourself is very important and, as some people already knew from previous posts, my mental health had taken a bit of a left turn and I simply want to be the best version of myself or be able to give the best version of myself to Angie,” he said.
Honestly, we commend the open discussion of mental health. It’s an often forgotten factor in relationships and it sounds like Carlin is doing his best in a tough situation.
He finished his story again emphasising what else we need to be concerned about. Namely, the ongoing Black Lives Matter civil rights movement, the plight of Indigenous people in Australia and the COVID-19 pandemic that we’re still in the thick of.
“There’s a lot going on in the world right now. There are actually bigger things going on and it’s kind of a shame that we even have to make an announcement about our relationship because truth be told there’s no one else who has to do this in their life. But that’s the nature of being in a show like that and in the public eye,” Carlin explained.
Hopefully they both get a bit of downtime to heal and process it all. 😔💕
