It’s barely been a week since Taylor Swift released her latest album and indie folk debut, folklore, but it’s quickly taken over the internet. Last week, fans theorised that “cardigan” was about cardigan-wearing Harry Styles, and it seemed pretty legit. And now, fans are obsessed with another track from the album, mashing it together with some of our all time favourite families and crews from TV.
Track 3 of folklore, titled “the last great american dynasty,” is now the internet’s current fav nostalgic meme. Essentially, people on Twitter are sharing photos of some of pop culture’s most iconic groups and fams with the line in the song’s chorus that it takes its title from, “there goes the last great American dynasty.”
In some of the below quality memes, fans are throwing back to Twilight’s the Cullens vamp-fam, High School Musical’s showbiz siblings Sharpay and Ryan Evans, and the cast of Disney’s Camp Rock—Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas and Alyson Stoner.
In others, they’re calling back to their own fam in The Sims, a Vanity Fair cover story of the Class of 2003’s Disney stars—Hilary Duff, Amanda Bynes, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lindsey Lohan, Raven-Symoné and more—and the original Los Angeles trio—Britney Spears, Lohan and Paris Hilton.
According to Vogue, Taylor Swift’s “the last great american dynasty” tells the story of Rebekah Harkness, a woman who was described as a socialite, philanthropist and artist before her death in 1982, and who previously owned Swift’s Holiday House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
