Since Taylor Swift dropped her tune “Gorgeous”, the world – okay, a select group of fans – has been fiercely debating two things. Who is the song about, and which ex is the “boyfriend in the club” who is “older than us”? Well, we may finally have an answer.
During a listening party with a select bunch of her dearest fans, Taylor revealed that the song was about her ‘gorgeous’ boyfriend Joe Alwyn. On Wednesday Taylor released a behind-the-scenes video showing the making of Gorgeous, and an original line in the song may finally explain which famous ex she was dating when she met her new love interest.
“Yeah I got a boyfriend, he’s older than us // He’s in the club doing I don’t know what” would appear to refer to Calvin Harris, considering he’s a DJ and spends plenty of time clubbing. But… that would mean Taylor met Joe more than one relationship ago? Like, in 2015 or early days of 2016? The whole thing was one confusing mess for all the lyric de-coders out there. Fortunately, the original line brings a little clarity.
Turns out, the line was originally written as, “I’ve got a boyfriend, he’s older than us / I haven’t seen him in a couple of months.”
So, the reference to her ex-boyfriend could actually be about Tom Hiddleston and, as the song suggests, she met Joe while they were still together. Perhaps she changed it to the “club” line to be deliberately shady or simply because it sounded better.
