The Queen of dropping clues.

Taylor Swift is the queen of clues, with every lyric and line meaning something very specific.

Nothing Taylor sings is a coincidence, which is why when her new album ‘Lover’ came out fans were quick to go on the hunt for any easter eggs that may give us an insight into Taylor’s life.

While there was plenty of shade (cc: Calvin Harris) and comments on sexism (listen to ‘The Man’ repeat when you want some motivation), Taylor may have just let her fans know that she has married boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

Taylor has kept her relationship with British born Joe under wraps, and after a string of very public romances (and breakups), we don’t blame her.

But it would be very unlike Miss Swift (or Mrs Alwyn) to at least give her die-hard Swifties a clue into the exact stage of their relationship.

Which is why when ‘Lover’ dropped people were quick to run over every word with a fine-tooth comb, with some fans taking the lyrics as a clear indicator that Taylor and Joe are actually married (or at the very least engaged).

So why are people (ourselves included) convinced that Tay Tay and Joe are married?

Here’s the evidence.

Paper Rings

Taylor sings “I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings,” and aside from the obvious wedding reference, ‘paper’ is the traditional wedding gift for a one-year anniversary.

Did Taylor and Joe get married last year?

It’s Nice to Have a Friend

See the lyrics: “Church bells ring, carry me home/ Rice on the ground looks like snow.”

Church bells? Need we say more?

Have you heard of the old wedding tradition, ‘something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue’?

Well so has Taylor. In ‘Lover’ she sings: “My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue.”

Remember, Taylor does NOTHING by accident.

And then, of course, there are these lyrics: “Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand?/With every guitar string scar on my hand/I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover.”
