SAMPLED MUSIC

Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” wasn’t the only song sampled in Taylor’s new tune. She also used this specific sound from when Cady is explaining that iconic Halloween scene.

Yeah, we all remember that iconic tweet Katy Perry sent out about Taylor. Katy’s “Swish Swish” song even has the lyric: “A Tiger/ Don’t lose no sleep/ Don’t need opinions/ From a shellfish or a sheep.”

BURN BOOK

One specific line in Taylor’s new song reads, “I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined.”

Damn.

“ET TU BRUTE”

This line is written on Taylor’s golden throne in the video. What does it mean and how does it relate to Mean Girls? WELL…

“Et tu brute” translates to “Even You, Brutus?” which is a famous line from the play Julius Caesar, by Shakespeare. Caesar utters those words as he is being stabbed to death by Brutus, his friend. It is a common phrase used to express being betrayed by a friend.

Now, remember this iconic scene by Gretchen in Mean Girls?

“Why should Caesar get to stomp around like a giant, while the rest of us try not to get smushed under his big feet? What’s so great about Caesar? Hm? Brutus is just as cute as Caesar. Brutus is just as smart as Caesar. People totally like Brutus just as much as they like Caesar. And when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody, huh? Because that’s not what Rome is about. We should totally just *stab* Caesar!”
