Disney’s ‘Soul’ is skipping theatres and heading to Disney Plus

Here's when you can watch Disney and Pixar's next big animated flick.

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us haven’t had the chance to go to the movies with our pals like we used to—especially if you’re in Victoria or overseas. So, in the spirit of Disney’s Mulan and Black Widow, Disney’s next big Pixar-animated feature film, Soul, is skipping theatres and coming exclusively to the Disney Plus platform.

Brought to you by the studio behind Inside Out, Soul is an upcoming animated Disney and Pixar film about the soul of a dying man trying to find his way back to his body. The film follows Joe Gardner, a high school music teacher by day and an aspiring jazz musician by night. When he finally gets his big break, he falls into a sewer pipe and dies, before finding himself turned into his soul and travelling the land “before Heaven” in search for a way to return to his old body. Soul stars Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey.

Soul was originally scheduled to release in June but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And, much like the live-action Mulan and allegedly Black Widow, its release is being moved to Disney’s streaming service. Fortunately however, it doesn’t seem like you’ll be paying a hefty extra fee to watch it.

Soul releases on Disney Plus on the 25th of December.
