‘Smallville’ star Allison Mack arrested over ‘sex cult’ claims

The actress pleaded 'not guilty.'

Actress Allison Mack, best known for her role as Clark Kent’s confidant Chloe in the television series Smallville, has been arrested on charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit forced labour.

Mack and self-help guru Keith Raniere, the leader of what police have alleged is a sex cult, are each charged with multiple counts and could face a minimum of up to 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors allege the 35-year-old actress helped recruit women for Raniere and his cult-like organisation called NXIVM and that Mack told the women they were joining a female mentorship group.

‘The victims were then exploited, both sexually and for their labour,’ prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said she required women she recruited to engage in sexual activity with Raniere, who paid Mack in return.

She also allegedly forced them to pose naked for photos — ‘including on one occasion close-up pictures of their vaginas’ — which were given to Raniere and also used as collateral.

Founded by Raniere in 1998, NXIVM offers ‘programs that provide the philosophical and practical foundation necessary to acquire and build the skills for success’, according to its website.

Around 160,000 joined the group, including Mack, Battlestar Gallactica star Nicki Clyne and Dynasty star Catherine Oxenberg’s daughter, India.
