It’s hard to imagine someone like Selena Gomez ever struggling in school, but the incredibly cool singer has recently opened up about her ‘rough’ days growing up, revealing that she was ‘kind of a nerd’.

Speaking on her close friend Raquelle Steven’s new podcast, “Giving Back Generation,” Selena opened up about her brief time attending a ‘traditional school’ before being homeschooled.

“If my cousin wasn’t the captain of the cheerleading team I would have been destroyed,” Selena said.

“Because I was just, you know, I was kind of a nerd and just hung out with like one person.”

Selena continued by saying that as she got older, she realised how important female friendships are in life, wanting to set an example for her fans about the importance of surrounding yourself with a good group of friends.

“Even my fans, they all know your names and they feel a connection to you guys,” she said on the podcast, which included host Raquelle and her other friends Ashley Cook and Courtney Lopez.

“I want, to be an example of friendship and what it can look like, and the importance of it. I want there to be more friendships like this. I think there needs to be more.”
