Harry Potter is one of the most successful and beloved book series in the world, so naturally, each country has translated it.
However, it’s come to our attention that the Scottish translation of the books are just WILD.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stane was published late last year, and it translated the novel into the traditional Scots (which is spoken by around 1.5 million people).
Dumbledore: Dumbiedykes
Quidditch: Bizzumbaw
Uncle Vernon: a“muckle, beefy-boukit man wi a stumpie wee craigie.” (ACCURATE!)
The houses of Hogwarts Schuil o Carlinecraft and Warlockry also change, becoming: Hechlepech, Corbieclook, Slydderin and Gryffindor. We guess Gryffindor was Scottish enough already!
Voldemort isn’t called “You-Know-Who”, but called,“You-Ken-Wha”, which is absolutely perfect, and Professor Snape fittingly becomes Professor Snipe.
