There’s nothing we love more than a fan theory, especially when it’s about Riverdale.
The show is officially BACK (which you can read all about here), and it’s spookier than ever.
So, the new theory suggesting that Betty Cooper’s mum, Alice Cooper, is actually a witch, doesn’t seem that insane.
A video from BuzzFeed suggests that Alice is a witch, related to the one and only Sabrina Spellman.
There is an Archie Comic version, titled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, where witches are able to choose being baptised during a satanic ritual or live life a a mortal human.
Alice may have gone through with the ritual, but raised mortal children.
What’s interesting is that the ritual/ceremony may be part of the Sabrina reboot Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is working on. In the photo he shared of the script, the supernatural event is referenced.
The theory had also made its way to Tumblr, where user betty-and-jughead made a GIF sequence with the evidence.
“She’s constantly using terms like ‘brew’ and ‘banish’ and ‘witching hour’… and I’m wondering if perhaps she’s the black sheep of the family that doesn’t want to accept her witchcraft lineage and instead decided to shun her family, move away from SouthSide, marry Hal and build a fresh new life for herself.”
