‘High School Musical: The Musical’ star Olivia Rodrigo just wrote a song about ‘Twilight’

Who better to write a song about our favourite moody awkward ship from our childhood than none other than Twihard and musical theatre geek Olivia Rodrigo?

Whether it’s the influx of new Twilight memes, Robert Pattinson’s Batman eyeliner or his chaotic pasta story, or the fact Stephanie Myer released a whole new book in 2020 and wants to make more in the future, we’ve allll been thinking about the beloved and messy vampire film and book saga lately. Including, ofc, Girlfriend fave, singer and actress Olivia Rodrigo.

Yesterday, the 17-year-old High School Musical: The Musical star shared a video of her playing an acoustic guitar and singing a song she made up. Its lyrics told the story of a young and angsty teen who moved to a small town, struggled to fit in but found herself gravitating towards a mysterious boy, confessing at one point, “this small town thing isn’t so bad after all so do you wanna hangout or not?”

Sound familiar?

“not me having writer’s block and writing a pop song about Bella Swan moving to Forks and meeting Edward Cullen in a science lab,” Rodrigo wrote in the caption for the new song about the internet’s favourite Twilight on-screen couple starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. I guess we know which team she’s on!

Olivia Rodrigo stars as Nini Salazar-Roberts in the Disney Plus series, High School Musical: The Musical. High School Musical: The Musical is a TV show sequel of the classic musical teen film trilogy, High School Musical, and follows a group of high schoolers from real-life East High (where the OG film was set!) in a musical about the films.

I mean, just watch this adorable rendition of “Breaking Free,” originally performed in the first High School Musical film by Vanessa Hudgens and not!Zac Efron, but now covered by Rodrigo and her on-screen romantic interest, Joshua Bassett. It’s super cute and just infectiously fun.
