Fans picked up on this disastrous plot twist that nobody asked for, from the casting call. It was released one year agbut is only just being picked up on.

Twitter user @nerdyasians tweeted about it, sparking an outrage online.. “saddened to report it’s basically been confirmed that li shang will not be in the live-action mulan. The mulan casting call has been confirmed to be accurate. donnie yen was cast as ‘commander tung,’ who is in the description for ‘chen honghui’,” the post reads.

“Rest in peace bisexual icon.” Some fan theories believe that Li Shang is part of the LGBTQ community, after he had such a close and special bond with Mulan’s male alter ego, Ping. He later fell in love with female Mulan.

Chen will supposedly be an army recruit who is determined to be the “best soldier in human history,” according to the casting call.

Mulan, who is dressed as a man will become his “biggest rival”. That is until he finds out she’s a girl…

As expected, fans are pISSED! “So the new character relentlessly bullies Mulan bc she’s better than him until he find out she’s a girl, hoah fence but i hate him and our bisexual king li shang would never,” one user wrote.

The only glimmer of hope is that Disney announced they will only be casting Chinese actors, so at least there won’t be any whitewashing.

We’re also going to have to wait until March 2020 to see the movie, as it got delayed.

Ugh, a mess, but we can’t wait.
