Earlier this week, we were greeted with the sad news that Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter had ended their summer fling.
We were all surprised that Miley had moved on so quickly after splitting with husband, actor Liam Hemsworth, and it seems that “moving on too quickly” was the reason why the Mother’s Daughter singer ended up calling time on her brief but passionate new romance.
According to PEOPLE, Miley broke off her relationship with Kaitlynn because things felt “too serious”.
“Miley split from Liam to focus on herself. Her relationship with Kaitlynn was a happy surprise,” the source told PEOPLE.

“Miley was so invested in her relationship with Liam for a long time. She felt her relationship with Kaitlynn was almost moving in that direction, too.”
The insider went on to explain that Miley needed space after her 10-year-long romance with Liam ended.
“Miley doesn’t want a serious relationship.”
“She and Kaitlynn spent every day together, and it just wasn’t anything that Miley wanted to continue doing.”
This very well connected source also said that our girl Miley felt like it was time to focus on her career.
“She wants to focus on her career. It wasn’t an easy decision, but this is ultimately what she wants.”
Despite the split, Kaitlynn and Miley (who were pals while they were married) are still tight.
“They’re still friends,” the source told PEOPLE.
“They’ve been friends forever and were there for each other when they were both getting separated, but they’re just not in a romantic relationship anymore.”
Miley and Kaitlynn first let the world know they were a couple a mere matter of days after Liam Hemsworth and Miley announced their separation.
The official separation statement was released to PEOPLE on August 10 and read: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.
“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
