Miley Cyrus has dropped a touching single titled ‘”Slide Away”.
In the beautiful three-and-a-half minute ballad, the artist reflects on her split from Liam Hemsworth, calling for a healthier and happier life without him.
“Once upon a time it was made for us/ Woke up one day and it turned to dust / Baby we were fine but now we’re lost/ So it’s time to let it go.”
“I am not who I used to be / You say that everything changed/ You’re right we’re grown now,” Miley sings.
In the single — which is her first new material since “On A Roll”— Miley also discusses moving on from the Australian actor, revealing she plans to “go back to the city life” while surfer Liam “heads to the ocean”.

Halfway through the song the talented artist sings, “don’t want the whisky and pills”— a reference that adds weight to claims the couple parted ways due to Liam’s excessive partying habits, “drinking” and “drug use”. The artwork accompanying ‘Slide away’— which features a collection of whisky bottles and pills floating in the water— also seems to imply these substances played a part in the demise of their decade long relationship.
The full lyrics are:
Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights / But it’s time to let it go
Once upon a time, it was made for us / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust
Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost / So it’s time to let it go
I don’t give up easily / But I don’t think I’m down
So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, la la la, you’ll slide away
So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights
So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, la la la, you’ll slide away
Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights / But it’s time to let it go
Once upon a time, it was made for us (For us)
So it’s time to let it go / Move on, we’re not 17
I’m not who I used to be / You say that everything changed
You’re right, we’re grown now / So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights
So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights
So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, la la la, you’ll slide away
You say that everything changed / You’re right, we’re grown now”
The Black Mirror star’s heartbreaking single came five days after a representative for the pop star confirmed she’d parted ways with her husband of seven months. Since then, dozens of insiders have dished on their breakup, with many admitting Miley and Liam are now at war— with claims of drug abuse and infidelity at the heart of their nasty split.
According to TMZ, sources on the pop star’s side say Miley desperately tried to save their seven-month-long marriage, however, Liam’s alleged “drinking” and “drug use” spelled the end of their decade long relationship. The questionable source also added that Miley wasn’t accepting of Liam’s alleged party antics, especially since she’s “struggled with substance abuse in the past”.
Since these shocking accusations emerged— which we should take with a grain of salt— a source close to The Hunger Games actor has hit back, claiming Miley’s friends are intentionally using this as a coverup so the attention is taken away from supposed “infidelity” on the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s behalf.
“This is another attempt by Miley to distract from her infidelity and recent outrageous public behavior,” the insider said.
Liam broke his silence on August 15, revealing in a heartbreaking post on Instagram that there’s no bad blood between the couple. He also asked fans to respect his privacy during this trying period.
“Hi all, Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward,” said Liam, who met Miley on the set of their movie The Last Song in 2010.
“This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false.
Peace and Love.”
