He might not have attended the reunion, but Sam Ball copped a lot of backlash on the finale of Married at First Sight.
On Monday night’s episode, the outspoken star’s vicious comments about Elizabeth Sobinoff’s weight and her overall appearance were exposed to this season’s cast. Naturally, everyone reacted in disgust.
“I’ve never really dated girls as big as Elizabeth in the past, to be honest,” Sam said after the couple enjoyed their wedding. “I was pretty turned off by her. I’m not into her.”
Offended and embarrassed, and enraged Elizabeth yelled, “What the fuck?”
“What the hell is that? You just met me at the wedding, you judge me by my appearance that I’m a larger girl, a heavy girl,” she began. “He’s setting the tone for all women out there. You’re not worthy enough if you are a size six. You don’t deserve the time of day, you don’t deserve any of that? I am appalled that he would make it so free to comment on a woman’s weight. That is disgusting. We are expected to look a certain way because of men like that. Are you out of your mind?
While most of the contestants empathised with Elizabeth and stayed quiet while shared her thoughts, Mike stepped in and defended Sam, which, as you can imagine, caused quite the stir.
“He shouldn’t have said those things, but I have seen the way you treat me. I have seen how you behave. I can only imagine that you drove him away with that behaviour,” Mike said. “You have been sitting here berating my mate and we just have to listen to it? We are all flawed.”
In an unexpected turn of events, Ines Basic comes to Elizabeth’s rescue and defends her.
“Did you have a relationship with Sam?” a stunned Ines asked. “Do you know him like she would know him or seen sides of him like I have?”
Undeterred by Ines’ comments, Mike said he will always stick up for his friend, regardless of the circumstances or the horrible things that come out of his mouth.
To which Ines replied, “Are you hearing yourself? Elizabeth deserves closure. She had some sort of connection and a relationship there.”
No doubt Sam has made a few more enemies after tonight’s episode.
