There’s no doubt about it: last night’s episode of Game of Thrones was bonkers.
Beware: this post contains SPOILERS!
Apart from the many people who died, there was some happy moments too – specifically the last scene where Arya Stark jumped into the air and stabbed the Night King to death, ending the insane Battle of Winterfell.
Maisie Williams, who plays Arya, told Entertainment Weekly that is was “unbelievably exciting” to be chosen to kill the Night King but she was worried about how fans would react to the decision.
“The hardest thing in any series is when you build up a villain that’s so impossible to defeat and then you defeat them,” she said. “It has to be intelligently done because otherwise, people are like, ‘Well, [the villain] couldn’t have been that bad when some 100-pound girl comes in and stabs him.’ You gotta make it cool. And then I told my boyfriend and he was like, ‘Mmm, should be Jon though really, shouldn’t it?'”
Ummm, excuse me???
Maisie exclusively told Girlfriend.com.au that it was not her new boyfriend Reuben Selby, but an “ex-boyfriend”.
Maisie told EW that she eventually got over her trepidation.
“When we did the whole bit with Melisandre, I realised the whole scene with [the Red Woman] brings it back to everything I’ve been working for over the past 6 seasons…So then I was like ‘Fuck you Jon, I get it.'”
Yes, girl.
Kit Harrington, aka Jon Snow, admits that he was also a tad shocked about Arya being the person to kill the Night King. “I was surprised, I thought it was gonna be me!” he told EW. “But I like it. It gives Arya’s training a purpose to have an end goal. It’s much better how she does it the way she does it. There’s also something about it not being the person you expect. The young lady sticks it to the man.”
Sophie Turner’s reaction to Arya’s badass move is basically all of us:
