Ariana Grande‘s music is always very heavily influenced by whatever is going on in her life.
Sweetener was a definite ode to healing from the Manchester Attack and meeting Pete Davidson, whereas her upcoming album that she’ll tour with Sweetener mourns “failed yet important beautiful relationships.
From the new album, Ariana has released “Thank U, Next” and now “Imagine”, and they’re both so incredible.
Ariana herself explained, “I would say if ‘thank u, next’ = acceptance… ‘imagine’ = denial.”
Denial in what exactly? Maybe that she will never get her late boyfriend Mac Miller back, and fans have found proof of this.
There are a few initial hints, like the lyrics about being with someone equally as famous.
“This is a pleasure, feel like we never act this regular.” She also says “Tell me your secrets, all of the creep shit, that’s how I know it’s true,” and she and Mac were always pretty candid about their personal demons, despite their fame and fortune.
She also told fans that ‘Imagine’ is about “a simple, beautiful love that is now (and forever) unattainable.”
But it was THIS that made us all cry:
Mac Miller had an ‘Imagine’ tattoo on his bicep.
After this amazing discovery, some fans tried to remove it from the internet to protect Ariana from the inevitable hate she’d receive from it. Just last week she was accused of milking Mac Miller’s death.
But despite the haters, it’s a beautiful song. Bravo Ariana. You’ve done it again.
