The incredibly popular Netflix show was meant to be coming to an end with it’s fifth and upcoming season.
However, there is now a very high chance that it might not be ending at all! Netflix is reportedly in talks with Warner Bros to extend the series, according to Deadline, which is music to our ears!
Originally, the show was aired by Fox and got cancelled after three seasons. But, when Netflix took over, the show gained a cult following and had fans doing everything they could to make sure the show didn’t come to an end.
When the ‘final’ season was announced, essentially reviving a show that was nearly cut, series executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson said: “We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms.
“Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!”
Seeing how popular it is, why would Netflix want to part ways with it?
Lucifer is a fantasy-drama that follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), also known as the Devil, who leaves Hell and moves to Los Angeles to run a nightclub, before then turning to the LAPD to become a consultant.
Neither Netflix or Warner Bros TV have confirmed the news, but we can only imagine how trilled Tom Ellis would be about the news.
When Fox cancelled the show in 2018, he was “gutted” by the decision.
He tweeted: “It has been the most amazing experience over the past 3 years playing Lucifer and falling in love with you, the fans.
“It fills me with great sadness to confirm the rumours that some of you have been asking. Fox has indeed cancelled #lucifer I’m so sorry guys. #gutted.”
When the show moved to Netflix, the actor spoke to Vulture (last May) saying, “Gosh, it was such a weird time. When I initially found out about the cancellation, I was pretty gutted.
“I’ve become a fan of the show too and loved the story we were telling. We weren’t finished. I was gutted.
“The moment I started drawing peace from the whole thing was the moment when people found out the show had been canceled, and the response within minutes was so overwhelming. And it kept growing and growing and growing.
“Someone from Warner Bros called me to say the company was looking for a new home for the show – just from the fan response.
“I did have a bit of hope, but I’ve also been in this game long enough where I realised there was, like, a 90 percent chance we weren’t coming back. The realistic people in my life kept reminding me of that.
“During that time I went to a lot of fan conventions, and people kept asking me what was happening. I was just like, ‘Keep believing and keep doing what you’re doing. It’s not going unnoticed’.”
