So far, Love Island Australia power couple Erin and Eden have seemingly taken the Australian public’s hearts. The couple has gone from strength to strength since coupling up on day one of the Channel Nine dating show.
But, their most recent display has caused fans to seriously question the truth about the pair’s relationship.
On Monday night’s episode, Eden planned an elaborate ‘act of love’ to ask Erin to be his ‘official’ girlfriend.
Lining up the boys in different parts of the villa, Erin was asked to read aloud various notes from Eden, reflecting on their relationship throughout the five weeks so far.
In what seemed to be a truly genuine and loved-up affair turned sour when many viewers quickly realised that Eden’s public display was a direct copy from last year’s Love Island UK winners.
In Love Island UK, contestant Kem sends Amber a series of texts via the phones given to the villa members.
As she makes her way around to each phone placed throughout the villa, Kem sends a thoughtful note that she then reads aloud.
One of Amber’s texts reads: “You’re everything I’ve ever asked for and more. I just can’t believe how well we clicked from the moment we laid eyes on each other.”
Identically to Love Island UK, the Australian contestants also watched on adoringly from the villa balcony.
With an adoring song playing in the background, Kem then comes and asks Amber to be his girlfriend.
In another identical twist, Kem then gifts Amber an ‘eternity’ bracelet that will symbolise their relationship.
In Love Island Australia, Eden gifts Erin an ‘E’ bracelet.
Twitter were quick to pick up on the similarities.
While the two scenario’s start off the same, the two do drift off slightly to become more specific to each couple’s experiences – including Eden entering the villa with a ‘pumpkin pie’, the sweet nickname he has given Erin.
Channel Nine have yet to respond to the backlash.
