Mean Girls is so iconic, it’s almost impossible to imagine it any different to what we know and love. WELL. Turns out one of the movie’s other stars almost played Regina George and she actually fought with the director over it!
Yup, Lindsay Lohan has just revealed that she REALLY wanted to play the film’s main mean girl and not Cady Heron.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actress said that she spoke to director Mark Waters A LOT about bringing Regina to life onscreen but he just wasn’t feeling it.
“Mark came out to scout locations for Mean Girls and came to see me at my hotel and said, ‘Do you wanna do this movie?'” Lindsay explained.
“I wanted to play Regina. I had just played in Confessions [of a Teenage Drama Queen] and Freaky [Friday] not the cool girl in school. I was still 17 years old and I wanted to be the cool girl on set.”
“So I had a war with him, and he goes, ‘No, Cady is the heroine, and that’s who you are.’ Then I sat in all the auditions.”
Lindsay also spilled that another of her co-stars also wanted the main role. “Amanda [Seyfried] auditioned to play Regina as well. It ended up being Rachel [McAdams], and she’s wonderful.”
WHOA. That means Rachel, Lindsay AND Amanda all wanted to be the Queen Bee. At least Lacey Chabert was just happy to play Gretchen Weiners from the beginning.
