Since CW’s Riverdale first began filming in 2016, the Riverdale crew—KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott and Vanessa Morgan—have been inseparable, working together season to season with virtually no breaks. So, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it marked the first time the group had been apart from each other and their work for the first real time.

But, in a recent interview with Nylon, Reinhart confessed that instead of being excited to go back and see her friends, she finds the idea of going back to the Riverdale set has made her “genuinely feel like a prisoner.”

“I genuinely feel like a prisoner, going back to work, because I cannot leave Canada,” she told the outlet. “That doesn’t feel good.”

“You can’t go home for Thanksgiving, can’t visit your family. No one can come visit you unless they quarantine for two weeks. It just feels f*cked.”

Back in early August, the 23-year-old Chemical Hearts star was called back to finish the last three episodes of Riverdale season four, after production was postponed thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, after finishing the “prom episode,” Reinhart and the rest of the crew will begin work on the fifth season, which will start after a seven year time skip.

“We stopped during the prom episode, so I have to fit back in that prom dress,” she said. “Five months later, we’re all going to be tan, maybe a little bit thicker. I certainly am.”

“I’m very lucky, but it’s like, ‘I need to keep going. I need to keep going,’” she continued, reflecting on the fact she can’t work on many other side projects but is thankful for having work right now.

“I felt very sad and hopeless, because of personal things that were happening in my life,” she said, assumedly referring to the pandemic, political climate and breakup with Cole Sprouse. “Instead of distracting myself, f*cking random people and doing drugs and drinking my problems away, I chose the harder route, which was to not distract myself.”

“I was like, ‘I’m not doing that. I’m going to go through the next however many months of shit, pure shit, awful, crying every day, but the necessary work.’”

Over the last week, the Riverdale cast have slowly been returning to the set. Vanessa Morgan (Toni Topez) was reportedly back first and shared that they’re all taking COVID-19 tests three times a week
