Imagining anyone other than Blake Lively play Serena on Gossip Girl should be a sin, but casting could have been so different.
Creator of the show, Josh Schwartz revealed to Vulture that none other than Jennifer Lawrence auditioned for the role, and desperately wanted to land it.
“We did not realise this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned,” Josh said. “This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it.”
When Gossip Girl started, J.Law was still pretty no-name when it came to her acting. A few years later she landed her debut role in Winter’s Bone, and since then, her career has SKYROCKETED.
So, we think it’s safe to say that she isn’t all too cut up about missing out on the role anymore.
