It’s the one thing fans have been waiting for since The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies was released: a return of Damon Salvatore.

Now, it looks like that dream might be coming true.
While chatting to Entertainment Tonight, Ian Somerhalder revealed that he is 100% keen to return to Mystic Falls.
“I actually would love to talk to Jules [Julie Plec]. I would love to go and direct one of [the Legacies episodes],” Ian said. “Because I know Paul [Wesley] went to do it and he called me and he’s like, ‘Bro, this is f*cking crazy.’ Because it’s all of our old sets, which is a time warp, 10 years ago. He’s just going, ‘Dude!’ He was actually kind of emotional about it, he goes ‘This is crazy!'”
Ian, who is gearing up for his new Vampire show V Wars, had nothing but amazing things to say about his time as Damon.
“We spent eight years on the show, and now it’s two years later, which we’re still talking about it while we’re working on other things. That’s a decade, 30 to 40. That’s a very substantial piece of your life,” he continued.
“But I would actually love to go back and direct one. I love what they are doing. The show looks amazing, it’s all of my old team.”
We cannot deal.

The former Disney star, who is dating Dove Cameron, has been cast in the show as the ‘new Damon’.
Thomas has taken on the role of a 600-year-old vampire Sebastian, who has appeared in present-day all of a sudden.
Sebastian/Thomas is Lizzie Saltzman’s new love-interest, joining the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted.
Seventeen.com got to chat to Thomas about his new role, where he dished on being compared to Damon.
“I think we definitely share that same energy. We have a very similar energy and expressions where we also have this charming, brooding quality to them. You’ll just have to wait and see if they’re similar and make your own mind up.”
While Thomas won’t actually be playing Damon, he understands he has some big shoes to fill being compared to the hunky Vampire.
“It’s always flattering to be compared to someone everyone loved in the series and who is a very successful and incredible actor. I think when I was working for Disney, I kept getting compared to Zac Efron and Troy Bolton and stuff, so that was natural to that.
“I mean, I try to not let that affect what you’re trying to do for your character. They are completely different characters and he’s also done his fantastically well and you don’t just want to copy that.
“You want to give the audience something different. Something else that they can either relate to or not relate to. Enjoy or not enjoy. That’s the whole essence of what we do.”
