Australians in New South Wales and Queensland are in the midst of battling extreme and deadly bushfires, which have been unrelenting for the past month.
The devastation that’s gripping the nation as Koalas lean on the brink of extinction and Australians lose their lives, homes and pets due to these bushfires, has not gone unnoticed by Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder.

While chatting with Yahoo, our favourite vampire (and soon to be our favourite vampire hunter in V Wars) expressed his condolences to all those who are currently suffering in rural New South Wales and Queensland.
“I am so sorry that your country is literally on fire,” Ian said.
Ian then went on to talk about the link between climate change and the fires both in his home city of Malibu, and in Australia.
Someone get Canberra on the phone ASAP because the ladies and gents there desperately need to hear this.
“I live in Malibu,” Ian began.
“I live in a fire-torn, scary place and the drying out of our climate and the fact that these droughts are unmistakably driven by climate destruction, I am very sorry to see that.”
Ian finished: “[Australia] is a very special place and my heart hurts for the wildlife, the flora, the fauna and everyone there.”
