Earlier this week, Katy Perry kicked off her Witness world tour, but unfortunately she is already facing some major backlash.
While in Montreal, Katy did a cover of Janet Jackson‘s iconic hit song, “What Have You Done For Me Lately”, even copying Janet’s choreography at the 1987 Grammy Awards, as The Fader reports.
Although a lot of Katy fans defended her actions (since many artists perform covers), Janet stans weren’t having it.
Katy Perry just gentrified Janet Damita Jo Jackson’s What Have You Done For Me Lately & I’m pissed about it 😡 pic.twitter.com/nu5nAE4xBx

Gentrification is not the right term, my dear. "Executed Not As Well As Hoped" would suffice. She tried. She didn't. That's it.

Katy has yet to comment on the backlash.
