FaceTime on your iPhone may allow eavesdropping

Apple has just confirmed a new iPhone bug that is causing CHAOS!

A bug regarding the FaceTime feature is allowing people to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations after calling them on FaceTime.

The bug came with the new FaceTime update, which allows users to make group phone calls of up to 30 people at a time.

It works by calling a friend and then adding their phone number to the call as a third person, which activates the second person’s microphone… even if they haven’t picked up the phone call.

Apple said they have turned off the group FaceTime function until a permanent fix is implemented, but you can take it a step further by disabling FaceTime on your iPhone.

9to5Mac (who discovered the bug), says the update is expected to come in later this week.

The publication also reports that any iPhone and iPad users who are currently using iOS 12.1 or later will most likely be affected by this bug.

The bug is also occurring on Macs, including ones that are upgraded to Mojave.

Unfortunately, the bug can also be used to activate your VIDEO without consent.

I just replicated the issue – on top of that, if you “join” the call using your invitation on another device (in this case another iPhone) you also get video!! Even though the call is still ringing / not answered on the destination device.
